Coming to America

In January 2009 (this year) I had all these plans to go the the U.S. Spend about 6 weeks driving, from L.A. , across the the Southern States, up the East Coast, drive West across the North of the continent and back to L.A. then fly back home to Australia.
Everything was planed for about July/August. Then it happened. I took a fall off work and injured my lower spine. Just my luck! I'm still off work at the moment, but still have big intentions to visit the U.S. and make this dream become a reality.
When get over there I'll be going to a Bass Pro store to stock up with fishing tackle. It might be a bit easier this way, then I don't have to worry about picking up a broken fishing rod a the baggage terminal at LAX.
Now when I get there, hopefully someone can help me out. There are a couple of fishing related things I'd love to do.
  1. I have to go Catfish Noodling. I've seen it on You Tube and I'd love to give it a go. Any local help would be greatly appreciated and would rewarded with a few cold beers.
  2. I need to catch a large Alligator Gar. So I'd need help from some local and experienced people to fulfill this mission.
So if any one in the U.S. would like to give me any guidance or help with fishing in your country it would be great.

Fishing Knots

I've started producing a series of tutorial videos for fishing knots. On a regular basis, I will be introducing more of these videos to be used a useful tool in the art of fishing. The quality may not be the best at the moment, but it will improve as soon as I can get my hands on better video equipment.
Knot tying is one of the most important skills to acquire for fishing. I plays such an integral part in this sport, that if not done properly, not only could you loose your catch from a faulty knot tying your hook on, but you also need this skill for tying line on to your reel spool, tying a monofilament leader onto braid, tying backing onto fly line, but also tying the correct knot onto lures to give the lure the best possible movement in the water.
Some people invent there own knots. It may be because that they have never been taught the correct way, or they just don't care and think any knot will hold, and as most of you already know that's not the case. With materials like monofilament that are very smooth, tying an incorrect knot can either come undone under stress and that usually happens when you have a fish or it may cut into itself and cause a breakage, and this always happens at the most critical time.
Some of the knots I'll be showing you can be used for several purposes, but some of the knots are for specific fishing situations, but I will cover them in mor detail in future blogs and videos.
So sit back and enjoy.
